Candle burning

19 Feb

A match flares.

A hiss. A spark.

A candle flickers

The darkness is softened

I cup the light in my hands. The flame is like a tiny dancer. She bends and quivers in the cold wind. She twists and shivers and stoops low. She recoils from the snow. She flinches from the storm. She almost dies as the demons of the night blow hard and cruel. Without mercy.

Yet I protect her, defend her, nurture her, shield her.

I guard her, shelter her, screen her, secure her.

I hold her close to my chest, near to my heart. I whisper my own private prayers to her. I carry her home. I find her a safe haven away from harm.

I place her in the window so you can see her dancing.

A candle is burning.

She is burning for you.

This one has a much different feel to it than what you typically write. I really like it. Of course I enjoy all of your work, but this is definitely one of my favorites.

Smiles. I am glad you enjoy. Perhaps because it is at the romantic end of my Romantic Dominant spectrum. Thank you.

Have I mentioned on a previous occasion that I much delight in your works? I do.
Perchance a published book is in the pipeline?

I am delighted that you enjoy. I do publish, but under my own name. Romantic Dominant always remains a secret pseudonym. Smiles. Thank you.

Oh then where is a young reader to search, and what name must she search for?

Alas, RD will always remain separate from his author. A forever secret.

How boldly unfair you are! I shall be miserable all week. (And I may even press the question again.)

I shall not quite believe the ‘miserable all week’ – and it is already Thursday. And I will not mind if you press.

It is what it is and I feel most miserable.
And perhaps you’ll now remember I once wrote a poem for you, and perhaps I will now play Chelsea Hotel on the piano for you and then perhaps you will want to give in and send me a secret email…
