Realization

18 Apr

Kneeling

before him

she realises

he is the temptation

the prayer

the pleasure

the pain

the sin

the confession

the blessing

and the absolution

all rolled into one.

.

.

I managed to upset those who follow a god with my post yesterday, so the use of religious imagery in my poetry in this post will no doubt lose me still more followers here and on Twitter. So be it.

“I managed to upset those who follow a god with my post yesterday”

There’s a difference between religion and personal faith; it’s possible to be objective and critical about your *religion* and accept it has shortcomings – that’s how growth happens. I don’t understand why people got upset about what you wrote. It’s true. I guess it’s easier for some to turn a blind eye though…

The core religious texts in most mainstream religions were written in the dim distant past by men. I have no problem with faith, only blind faith.

That should be the least of your worries. One can never please everyone, nor one should. People are free to come and go as they’re pleased and you are here to voice whatever thoughts love in your head.

I read your post yesterday and loved it and as a Christian I could not have agreed more with all that you shared! Todays words are incredibly beautiful and poignant and i hope you will forgive me for saying I felt your words to my very soul and can almost allow myself to believe they were written for me! So I’m not planning to disappear and i’m smiling a sad smile for those who have decided to do just that.

As a Catholic I’m not in the least offended by your post. I’m of the believe that everyone is entitled to express freely and I’m not inclined to force my opinions on others. . I will continue to enjoy your words.

I am glad you are unoffended and that you enjoy my untidy tangle of words.

Just as I tolerate your disbelief, I hope you tolerate my belief. I was not offended. However I can see how some might have been. In any religion, each person has their own individual personal relationship or faith within it. We don’t know what is inside of their individual hearts. So I will never judge individuals. But then too, I cannot judge a religion as a whole either. Comparing religions or “faiths” that have existed for centuries to a personal faith that belongs to a person of less than 100 years doesn’t make sense. For if one believes that religion or “faith in a God” is man-made, then my question would be: isn’t it a man who created yours? The mess and evil in this world is and has been created by humans. Any and all humans. Not just the ones that show up in the news. We are all responsible.

I was not comparing faiths. I don’t have a faith. I simply have a set of principles that I personally believe people should live by. I simply make the point that no religion of which I am aware embraces those principles. You are entitled to believe in whatever you wish to believe and I am happy to ‘tolerate’ any faith that does not seek to impose itself upon others, or believes its followers are superior. I do however challenge you to argue that my list of principles is not something that all humans should aspire. And then to explain why your religion does not promote them.

The fact that you personally believe everyone should follow your principles is interesting. I’d like to know what your qualifications are to determine what those principles should.

I don’t believe everyone should follow them. I only ask you to say what is wrong with them. I am happy to conduct the same critique on your religion.

Read your original response to my comment again. You do say that you “personally believe everyone should”. I don’t need a human being to critique my relationship with a higher power thank you though.

I’m sorry, I don’t judge, so I won’t tell you what’s wrong with what you believe. What I said was just because humans carry out a certain principle or religious belief does not mean that that was the intent of the principal or religious belief. The error lies with human beings and will always lie with human beings because human beings are imperfect. So tolerance is appreciated when I look outside of human nature for solutions.

Ah yes. Imperfect humans. Perfect god. I shall leave you to your beliefs. Completely tolerated, of course.

I didn’t use the word “perfect” to describe God, although that is what the Bible tells me. But your sarcastic comment using that word is the very essence of Tolerance. Lol

It is sarcastic to call god perfect when that is exactly how your religion describes him? I am simply echoing the bible. Smiles I think your religion shows much more intolerance than that tiny barb. But I am bored with the debate and falling asleep.

Your tolerance and judgment are also exhausting me. I never said what my religion was. But your ideas seem very clear on what it is without a word from me.
And a continuing problem with humans is dishonesty. Please be honest when defending your comment of a perfect God. You may think that your tone does not coming across in your comments. I believe you’re very talented at communicating your feelings through the written word. And I’ll leave it at that. Sleep well.

*be. And I don’t have a religion. I follow the Bible and I won’t argue the creation nor prove the truth of it. I would leave to you the job of proving it wrong. And I mean proving the principles wrong. Not the people who carry them out. The error lies in humans not in God or the lack thereof.

I happen to love the qualities you believe each human has the ability to possess. Our job is to show them, so that they see the goodness. I support you, RD.

I wouldn’t worry about it. For every one you lose, another will be found. This was lovely 🙂
