Undress

art-by-omar-ortiz

The only time

night or day

rain or shine

winter or summer

that I don’t want

to undress you

is when I want

you to undress

for me.

Conversation

Art by Jack Vettriano

She cupped his face in her hands

and sighed.

‘I love your eyes,’ she whispered.

‘Why?’ he asked softly.

She smiled

‘Because they see me as beautiful.’

The longest road

art-by-steve-hanks

I would take the longest road home

through the cities where there are crowds and lost souls and men with ugly smiles,

over high, lonely mountains where the ice and snow chill the bone.

across the cruellest seas where the waves climb high to claim me,

amidst the unexplored forests where the trees usher in the menacing, rustling dark,

into the bleakest deserts where the angry wind hurls sand into my eyes to blind me.

I would take the longest road home

if it meant passing by your door.

In time

Art by Alexey CHERNIGIN

I imagine

falling into sleep

with your back

pressed to my chest

and your sweet breasts

cupped in my hands

your heart beating

in time

with mine,

What’s it like?

art-by-william-oxer

What is it like?

.

What is it like to be with her

hearing her words

knowing her dreams?

What is like to be hers?

.

What is it like to be closer

stroking her hair

holding her body?

What is like to be there?

.

What is it like to be inside

feeling her skin

parting her thighs?

what is like to be in?

.

This poem, written by me in my teens, often pops into my head.  I have no idea what I am thinking about that suddenly brings it to mind…..

But here it is – recited by a much older, but sometimes still very inquisitive, me.

Not the first time I have posted it

Laura

Another of my ‘songs I like but which you might not have heard’

I am very fond of this track. It is moving, hopeful, sad and uplifting all at the same time.

It is by Natasha Khan, an English singer songwriter of some talent. She sings under the name Bat for Lashes, and has been recording since around 2006. This particular single was released off her very good album The Haunted Man, in 2012.

I remember playing ‘Laura’ to a close work colleague who had been having a challenging time in love, in business, in life generally. She sat in my car and cried copiously when she heard it. I was alarmed but was assured that they were ‘good tears’. We went out for a meal afterwards and she didn’t dance on tables, but we did drink much red wine and laughed and probably annoyed other diners who might also have assumed we were lovers. The song cheered her up anyway.

The video is a little left field, but I suppose it works.

Laura by Bat for Lashes

You say that they’ve all left you behind

Your heart broke when the party died
Drape your arms around me and softly say
Can we dance upon the tables again?

When your smile is so wide and your heels are so high
You can’t cry
Put your glad rags on and let’s sing along
To that lonely song

You’re the train that crashed my heart
You’re the glitter in the dark
Ooh Laura, you’re more than a superstar

And in this horror show
I’ve got to tell you so
Ooh Laura, you’re more than a superstar

You say that you’re stuck in a pale blue dream
And your tears feel hot on my bedsheets
Drape your arms around me and softly say
Can we dance upon the tables again?

When your smile is so wide and your heels are so high
You can’t cry
Put your glad rags on and let’s sing along
To that lonely song

You’re the train that crashed my heart
You’re the glitter in the dark
Ooh Laura, you’re more than a superstar

You’ll be famous for longer than them
Your name is tattooed on every boy’s skin
Ooh Laura, you’re more than a superstar

You’re the train that crashed my heart
You’re the glitter in the dark
Ooh Laura, you’re more than a superstar

And in this old horror show
I’ve got to let you know
Ooh Laura, you’re more than a superstar
You’re more than a superstar…

Magical

Art by Gianni Strino

She is more magical

than a sticky-winged butterfly

unfolding from its hard shell,

the vivid arc of a bright rainbow

after the storm,

the muscular power of a thoroughbred

thundering across a field,

a full silver moon sailing

across a velvet night sky,

a virgin fall of powdery snow

awaiting my skis,

the scent of freshly cut grass

at the end of a summer’s day,

a glass of brunello di montalcino

sipped by the fire,

the staccato gunfire of high heels

crossing a marble floor,

a newly emerged desert flower

ephemeral in the sand.

She is more magical

than fervent wishes

unexpectedly coming true.
