Left behind

Art by Pier Toffoletti

You can scrub it

you can scrape it

you can scour it.

You can purge it

with a dozen new lovers

dark games

wild nights

lost hours.

You can drive it out

with drugs

and alcohol

and sex

and men who tell you lies.

But you will never erase

the poem I left behind

in your soul

.

I love how you have managed to create the impression of an entire lifetime and its possible events through very precise words. It is an incredibly assertive piece!
