He thinks he ought to feel virtuous.
He has taken the moral high ground. He has followed a righteous path. He has behaved honourably after starting out doing the very opposite. He has been good, principled, upright.
He thinks he should feel just a little bit pure.
He believes he should feel noble.
But you don’t get to be holy doing the right thing for the wrong reasons.
