Wrong reasons

11 May

He thinks he ought to feel virtuous.

He has taken the moral high ground.  He has followed a righteous path.  He has behaved honourably after starting out doing the very opposite. He has been good, principled, upright.

He thinks he should feel just a little bit pure.

He believes he should feel noble.

But you don’t get to be holy doing the right thing for the wrong reasons.

(Painting by Anne Magill – The Hopeless Romantic)
